 Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine in Miami, Florida

The University of Miami Health System, Miller School of Medicine is seeking an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Opportunity to develop a private patient base seeing own patients
  • Provide clinical care to a diverse adolescent population in a large multidisciplinary adolescent health center - inpatient and outpatient clinical services
  • Clinical responsibilities include ambulatory clinic, shared call and shared coverage of extended hour clinics
  • Clinical teaching focused on preventive and evidence-based medicine. Teaching residents and medical students, clinical research, and outreach
  • Collaborate with health care delivery team to provide culturally competent primary ambulatory health care services to and in partnership with eligible patients through diagnosis and management of acute and chronic problems
  • Assure adequate follow-up by obtaining consultations and/or referrals when appropriate
  • Provide counseling and education to improve health outcomes through application of holistic approach to patient needs
  • Participate in the development and implementation of patient care guidelines focused on quality outcomes
  • Collaborate with other health care providers (e.g., MD, DO, NP, PA, CNS) and professionals (e.g., pharmacists, RN, LPN, CLS, RT, etc.) in the delivery of quality care
  • Maintain clinical records in accordance with current policies and procedures
  • Obtain health histories, perform physical examinations, conduct objective and subjective patient assessment, order diagnostic tests/studies, establish care plan, order medication, and educate the patient appropriate to her/his age, culture, and individual needs
  • Develops and carry out a comprehensive medical treatment plan addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural domains.
  • Interacts on a professional level with staff members and physicians.
  • Observes patients for any reactions and reports to appropriate personnel in an educational offerings
  • Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients
  • Demonstrate ability to perform an accurate history and physical of patient
  • Gathers essential and accurate information through review of pertinent records and interviews with the patient, family members, caregivers and other health professionals
  • Reports hazardous/unsafe conditions, equipment malfunction, or supply instrumentation inadequacies to appropriate personnel
  • Reports all Quality Assurance (QA) incidences including mediation errors to responsible physician using department guidelines
  • Assumes responsibility for increasing knowledge and expertise by attending continuing educational offerings
  • Makes informed decisions about interventions based on patient information and preference, up-to-date scientific evidence in the field, and clinical judgment
  • Performs assigned related duties using appropriate skills and equipment per hospital policy
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations

Requirements:

  • MD or DO required
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics with subspecialty certification in Adolescent Medicine
  • Florida license prior to start
  • Practical experience in adolescent health or recent fellowship in adolescent medicine
  • Expertise in eating disorders, (including obesity care), menstrual disorders, depression and anxiety, multi-disciplinary substance abuse, risk behaviors, and chronic health issues, reproductive health, HIV prevention and/or treatment, sports medicine and/or transitional health care issues a plus. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments
