The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHCS) is actively recruiting to fill a Board-Certified Interventional Radiologist  to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes!  Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment within the Department of Radiology  at Loma Linda University, & be involved with education & teaching of medical students, residents & other providers. The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is part of the Desert Pacific Healthcare Network. The Healthcare System consists of the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center and 7  community clinics located in Blythe, Corona, Palm Desert, Redlands, Rancho Cucamonga, Murrieta and Victorville, and a newly opened 340,000 square foot Ambulatory Care Center in Redlands CA. Opened in 1977, the Medical Center is named in memory of Congressman Jerry L. Pettis, who worked diligently to locate the facility in Loma Linda. It is one of the top 25 employers in the Inland Empire; with over 2,460 employees and 1,367 volunteers that serve over 76,000 Veterans who entrust their health care needs to the VA. The Medical Center, located on 34 acres, and approximately 0.7 miles from Loma Linda School of Medicine, its affiliate, and Loma Linda University Medical Center, provides a wide variety of services through inpatient, outpatient and home care programs, with major bed services in Medicine, Surgery and Behavioral Medicine. The facility has 162 acute care beds and a 108 bed Community Living Center. Postgraduate medical and dental education programs are conducted with the Loma Linda University. In addition, the Medical Center is also affiliated with 77 other educational institutions and provides training for a variety of allied health specialists.

Scope of Practice:

  • Provide attending physician services to inpatient and outpatient Clinics.
  •  
  • Perform interventional procedures including ultrasound (US), CT and fluoroscopic guided lumbar puncture, biopsy or drainage in the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis and in the musculoskeletal system.
  •  
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures within the approved scope of practice at the Loma Linda  VA Medical Center.
  •  
  • Supervise and teach fellows, residents and medical students who are rotating on the Radiology Service.
  •  
  • Develop a research program in a relevant area of Interventional Radiology that will provide benefit to Veterans’ healthcare needs.

  • Perform diagnostic interpretation of x-rays 

 

Experience:

  • The candidate should be board-certified in Radiology and Board Certified/Eligible for Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology.
  •  
  • Being versed in the performance and interpretation of magnetic resonance angiography and CT angiography of the great vessels and peripheral vasculature is a must.
  •  
  • The candidate will be expected to obtain a university academic appointment and his or her research productivity will be commensurate with requirements to maintain and advance in the University clinical or research.

Tour of duty:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, on-call or weekends, Alternative work scheduled may be available.  Salary $345,000=375,000

Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen or PRA (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with [38 U.S.C. § 7407(a)]; 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state, 3) board eligible/certified in Interventional Radiology, and 4) verify COVID and Flu vaccination. Preferred experience: Best qualified candidates will be Board Certified in Interventional Radiology.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
