Emergency Medicine Physicians are highly trained clinicians specializing in diagnosing and treatment of emergency conditions including medical, surgical, and acute mental health conditions that may require rapid diagnosis, treatment, and/or stabilization. Emergency Medicine Physicians are also capable of identifying and treating a broad range of urgent to non-urgent clinical conditions. Emergency Physicians have expertise in numerous types of emergent, urgent, and non-urgent conditions across the full range of the practice of medicine. He/She should have the capability to interpret exams and tests to help determine an emergency medical condition in order to determine the need for acute treatment, stabilization, admission, transfer, or discharge of patients from the emergency department. Establishment of excellent communication skills and counseling patients in order to help them better understand their course of treatment is essential. In addition to providing medical care, the Emergency Medicine Physician will work with a skilled team of professionals such as nurses, technicians and a broad range of specialty and primary care providers in order to ensure successful completion of required treatment for patients. The Emergency Medicine Physician should be proficient and competent in the skills and procedures normally associated with training for a board-certified emergency medicine provider.
