Cardiac Anesthesiologist – Portland, Maine
Spectrum Healthcare Partners is seeking full-time and part-time BC/BE general anesthesiologists to join our dynamic team of over 50 physicians at Maine Medical Center—a 700-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center and flagship hospital for the State of Maine and a leading teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. With the opening of a new state-of-the-art cardiovascular medical tower in 2024, the MMC cardiac service line is expanding to better meet the needs of northern New England. We anticipate increasing our cardiac surgery (currently 1000 cases), structural heart, and EP volume by 80% by 2027.

About This Role:

This is a unique opportunity to practice high-acuity, academic medicine in a physician-owned and physician-led private practice.

• Cardiac Anesthesiologist Case Mix: coronary revascularization, complex valve replacements, structural heart procedures (TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman), high-risk PCI, and heart failure surgery (ECMO, LVAD, Impella).
• Academic Engagement, Private Practice Foundation: Contribute meaningfully to resident and fellow education, participate in clinical research, and pursue academic advancement - all within a physician-owned practice that still values autonomy, innovation, and physician leadership. We serve as faculty for both the MMC anesthesiology residency and cardiac anesthesia fellowship programs.
• Exceptional Compensation: Full-time, call-taking anesthesiologists average $600k annually for 1900 hours of work per year, with additional earnings through time-based incentive pay.
• Generous Time Off: 8 weeks of vacation, paid sick leave, plus additional comp days.
• Manageable Call: Call averages 1 weekday per week and <1 weekend per month, with a strong team approach to coverage.

• Candidate Requirements: ABA board certification, Advanced PTE exam, and Cardiac Anesthesiology Boards required within 4 years of employment.

Spectrum Healthcare Partners Southern Anesthesiology Division has a growing team of 40+ established anesthesiologists who provide coverage to Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, Maine. MMC, a 700-bed academic tertiary care hospital and the only level 1 trauma center in Maine, is also a teaching affiliate of Tufts University. MMC has active pediatric surgical subspecialties, a large cardiac and heart failure program, high-risk obstetrics, and growing residency and fellowship programs.
