Position Overview:
Mercy Health is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our growing surgical team based at St. Vincent Medical Center, a leader in advanced cardiovascular care. This is an opportunity to join a supportive team with a vast referral base and a strong commitment to providing quality patient care.
The ideal candidate will be board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery, have 5+ years of post-fellowship experience, and demonstrate clinical proficiency in both cardiac and thoracic procedures, with advanced skills in treating abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, lung cancer, and mechanical circulatory support including Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs). An interest in helping lead and develop the program is highly preferred.
Primary Practice Location:
- St. Vincent Medical Center – Toledo, OH (Level I Trauma Center, tertiary care)
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a full scope of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
- Valve repair and replacement (including TAVR coordination)
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm repair
- Surgical management of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA)
- Lung resections and mediastinal mass removal
- Pacemaker/ICD placement and device extraction
- VAD implantation and mechanical circulatory support
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care for cardiac and thoracic surgical patients, including ICU management.
- Collaborate closely with cardiologists, vascular surgeons, pulmonologists, intensivists, and other specialists across the Mercy Health system.
- Take part in a shared call rotation (1:3) covering approximately 7-10 days per month.
- Engage in outpatient clinics weekly to ensure continuity of care and patient follow-up.
- Support ongoing resident education, teaching, and clinical research initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Board Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Fellowship training from an ACGME-accredited program.
- 5+ years of post-training surgical experience preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac and thoracic procedures.
- Experience with VADs
- Strong critical care and ICU patient management experience
- Commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and program development
