Position Title: Upper Extremity Orthopedic Surgeon

Job Overview: As an Upper Extremity Orthopedic Surgeon at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw, Michigan, you will be responsible for providing specialized orthopedic care focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of conditions affecting the upper extremities, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. This role offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the advancement of orthopedic surgery in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients presenting with upper extremity musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, ligament injuries, arthritis, tendon disorders, and nerve compressions. Utilize clinical examination techniques, diagnostic imaging studies, and other relevant tools to establish accurate diagnoses and develop individualized treatment plans.

  2. Treatment Planning and Non-Surgical Management: Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific condition, functional goals, and preferences. Utilize a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating non-surgical modalities such as medications, injections, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to optimize conservative management strategies.

  3. Surgical Expertise: Perform a wide range of upper extremity orthopedic surgeries, including shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization procedures, elbow arthroscopy, elbow ligament reconstruction, wrist arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and hand surgery. Utilize advanced surgical techniques, minimally invasive approaches, and state-of-the-art surgical equipment to achieve optimal outcomes while minimizing patient morbidity.

  4. Patient Education and Counseling: Educate patients and their families about their orthopedic conditions, treatment options, surgical procedures, and postoperative care requirements. Provide clear explanations, address questions and concerns, and empower patients to actively participate in their treatment decision-making process.

  5. Collaborative Care and Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Work collaboratively with orthopedic colleagues, nursing staff, rehabilitation therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care delivery. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and optimize the patient care experience.

  6. Continuing Education and Research: Stay current with the latest advancements in upper extremity orthopedic surgery through ongoing professional development, attendance at conferences, participation in research projects, and collaboration with academic institutions. Contribute to clinical research endeavors, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities aimed at advancing orthopedic knowledge and improving patient care outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Upper Extremity Orthopedic Surgery from a reputable institution
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Active medical license and eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Michigan
  • Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and treating upper extremity orthopedic conditions, including surgical management of complex cases
  • Excellent surgical skills and technical proficiency in upper extremity orthopedic procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and professional integrity
  • Dedication to collaboration, teamwork, and continuous improvement in orthopedic care delivery

Work Environment: The Upper Extremity Orthopedic Surgeon will primarily work in hospital settings, including outpatient clinics, surgical suites, and inpatient units dedicated to orthopedic care.
