Are you a current fellow (within one year of graduation) - or an experienced robotics-trained urologist (MD, BC; DERP, ACLS/BLS)?

Our Provider will be located in the main Hampton VA Medical Center hospital and join a team of 2 other urology-focused-Physician Assistants. This position is 80% clinical and 20% admin time. On average, our provider will see 12–14 patients/5-6 procedures daily. 

This position has an ideal Monday through Friday workday (7:30-4 pm).

This position is eligible for our Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) which allows for up to $200K in loan repayment over a 5-year period and an incentive bonus is authorized for highly competitive candidates.

Performance pay of up to $15K annually. Sign-on bonus for highly qualified candidates.

Health care and services

We provide you with health care services at 4 locations in in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina: our Hampton VA Medical Center and 3 community-based outpatient clinics in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  Special facilities at our medical center include a state-of-the-art women’s clinic designed to provide gender-specific care under one roof, plus leading spinal cord Injury and mental health units. To learn more about the services each location offers, visit our Hampton VA health care page.

Teaching and learning

As a teaching hospital, Hampton VA Medical Center provides a full range of services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Our medical center is primarily affiliated with the Eastern Virginia Medical School. We offer residency training in all major medical, mental health and subspecialties. We also provide associated health training in nursing, psychology, optometry, social work, dietetics, and pharmacy.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $19,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $25,500.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
