Small and rural communities face unique challenges in providing access to highest quality, coordinated and collaborative care close to home for patients.? General Surgery is an essential service to all acute inpatient facilities.? Our mission requires that we find innovative solutions to the challenges of surgical care at small community hospitals.? These solutions must advance quality, optimize the care at the local facility and facilitate coordination of care when specialists or tertiary level of care is required. ? In recent years, the AHMG Surgery Care Division has created solutions to historical decline in general surgical volume at AH Stanly.? During that time, with a coordinated effort among the teams at AH Cabarrus and AH Stanly, we have seen growth of AH Stanly general surgical case volumes by 40%.? Atrium Health is committed to advancing multiple service lines in this rural community and future opportunities exist at AH Stanly to develop a rural training pathway for residents and APPs from multiple service lines.? We are seeking clinical leaders who are interested advancing this mission. 

Atrium Health is recruiting an experienced BC/BE general surgeon interested in elective and emergency general surgery to join our team at AH Stanly in Albemarle, NC, a 100 bed acute care hospital.? The surgeon will play a vital role in elevating the care of general surgical patients at the facility.? This surgeon will partner with one established Atrium Health general surgeon who participates in call coverage and elective practice.? Call coverage will be no more than every fourth night, every fourth weekend, as the facility is supported through internal and external locums providers. In addition to the call responsibility, the surgeon will build a busy bread and butter general surgery practice?  

AH Cabarrus is a 457 bed level III trauma center 35-40min to the west of Stanly, and there are established pathways of collaboration between the teams at both locations.? Surgeons at Stanly have the benefit of coordination of care with specialists such as interventional radiology, HPB, bariatrics, plastic surgery, colorectal, gyn onc and others at AH Cabarrus. 

Atrium Health is also committed to the professional development of surgeons.? Through the AH Acute Care Surgery Network, all surgeons providing care of the EGS/trauma/Surgical Critical Care patient can participate in a monthly call, research and education opportunities and specific projects to advance the care or urgent general surgical patients across the system.? Leadership structures align community surgeons with mentors locally and across the region and facilitate pathways to impact positive change.? In addition, the AH Medical Group is renowned for its advanced programs around physician leadership development, physician well-being and career development. 

Stanly County is known for its rural communities, beautiful natural landscapes, farmland, forests and two nearby residential lakes (Badin and Tillery).? There are many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors through a network of parks, water activities on the lakes, golf, hunting and fishing, and camping/hiking/mountain biking/atvs at the Uwharrie National Forest.? 

While the people of Stanly County enjoy all that it has to offer, there are nearby options for expanded activities.? Concord is home to the The Depot (the south’s largest indoor antique mall), the Charlotte Motor Speedway complex, Concord Mills Mall and a number of acclaimed breweries and restaurants.? ?Charlotte is less than one hour away, with its rapidly expanding CLT Douglas International Airport, a multitude of restaurants, entertainment opportunities and professional sports teams in NFL football, NBA basketball, MLS soccer, and minor league baseball, and hockey.
