Director of Primary Care

Position Summary: Plans, assesses, directs, develops, implements and evaluates clinical functions and operations of the Primary Care Department to ensure delivery of effective and appropriate quality patient care consistent with established regulatory, licensing and practice standards and requirements and which supports/furthers the mission, goals and objectives of the hospital; performs, completes and oversees the full range of general medical treatment to patients to ensure appropriate diagnosis of conditions in accordance with all standards and practices.

Critical Tasks: 

 

  • Provides clinical leadership and consultation for other involved professionals on diverse treatment issues.
  • Actively participates in development, review and evaluation of program related policies and procedures, program planning and integration of hospital goals and objectives.
  • Serves as primary liaison with medical staff and other health care providers to facilitate coordination of treatment.
  • Prepares monthly progress/operational report; identifies areas of improvement, concern and recommended.
  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations, overall findings and diagnosis of patients through use of history and other appropriate tests.
  • Prescribes and monitors medications; recommends appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Reviews medical histories and records treatments in medical charts to ensure proper and timely documentation.
  • Works collaboratively with other medical and specialty areas to discuss and obtain consultative services for cases requiring multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Serves as a resource to the patient and/or family regarding available community and state resources, programs and services to provide for health needs of patients.
  • Maintains and provides caseload data, activity records and other relevant information for use in clinic operations, performance improvement or for planning purposes.
  • Provides clinical coverage for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients served to ensure provision of a comprehensive continuum of care.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings and workshop participation.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Medical Staff; serves on committees as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical leadership and consultation for other professionals by providing expertise in various therapeutic interventions.
  • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives.
  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.
  • Plans, develops, and manages department strategies and operational budgets to ensure provision of services consistent with desired objectives delivered responsibly.

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • Graduate from an accredited program of study leading to either an M.D or D.O. Degree required
  • Successful completion of an approved Residency Program
  • 7 years clinical experience which includes 1 year in a management role
  • Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice medicine from the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine & Surgery. If licensed in another state, must possess such Arizona license within one year of hire.
  • Board certified required.
  • Current or eligible for DEA licensure.
  • Current and continuing BLS training and certifications.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.

About Us

The Komatke Health Center Campus is located in Laveen, Arizona, just south of the Vee Quiva Casino.  This location is ideal for the residents of Districts Six and Seven, and other Native Americans located on the west side of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.   Komatke Health Center opened in January, 2009, after many months of construction and preparation.  The services offered parallel the services at the Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital Campus, however, on a more limited basis.  Co-located with the main clinic are the West Dialysis Center and the West Side Behavioral Health Center.
