DBHDS is seeking dedicated psychiatrists to join our mission-driven teams across Virginia. As a valued clinical leader, you’ll deliver high-quality psychiatric care in inpatient settings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams devoted to recovery, dignity, and hope.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments
• Lead individualized, evidence-based treatment planning
• Manage medication and therapeutic interventions using best practices
• Coordinate care and discharge planning with internal and external partners
• Participate in court hearings as needed
• Ensure timely, accurate medical documentation
• Provide on-call coverage as scheduled

Qualifications

• M.D. or equivalent from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an approved psychiatry residency program
• Active Virginia medical license (or eligibility to obtain one)
• DEA license to prescribe

Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability or are in need of substance use disorder services.
