Your Role Includes:
Conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments
Leading collaborative, evidence-based treatment planning
Managing psychiatric medications with best practices
Coordinating patient care and discharge plans
Attending on-site court hearings as needed
Ensuring timely, accurate medical documentation
Serving as an on-call physician when scheduled
What We’re Looking For:
M.D. or equivalent from an accredited medical school
Completion of an approved psychiatry residency program
Active Virginia medical license
DEA license to prescribe

Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability or are in need of substance use disorder services.
