302-bed inpatient facility
Adult civil, forensic, and geriatric populations
Opportunities for short- and long-term patient care
Lead treatment planning
Work closely with social work, nursing, psychology, and rehab specialists
Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM
Minimal on-call (1–2 shifts/month, compensated)
Caseload of 10–20 patients, with PCP coverage
Attend court hearings
Engage in diverse treatment modalities
Annual CME funds + paid CME leave

Founded in 1773, Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia, is the first public facility in the United States dedicated solely for the care and treatment of the mentally ill. Today, our newly constructed state-of-the-art campus is situated on 500 acres with two patient care buildings and a staff of over 900 caring for 302 adult patients. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, is accredited by the Joint Commission, and a federally designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
