IU Health and the Indiana University School of Medicine are seeking an academically focused medical oncologist to join the GI Oncology Program in Indianapolis, Indiana. This position is designed for a candidate seeking to build a focused academic career in gastrointestinal oncology, with an emphasis on clinical trials, disease-site specialization, multidisciplinary care, education, and clinical/translational research.
The successful candidate will practice primarily within the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or affiliated IU Health oncology sites, with opportunities to focus on a defined area of GI oncology based on clinical and research interests. The position offers strong clinical trial infrastructure and the opportunity to participate in, develop, and lead investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
This is an academic opportunity for a motivated physician interested in becoming a clinical trialist and contributing to the growth of a high-impact GI oncology program.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert, disease-site focused care for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and neuroendocrine tumors.
- Develop and maintain an academic clinical practice with emphasis on evidence-based care, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary treatment planning
- Participate in, develop, and lead clinical research studies in GI oncology, including therapeutic clinical trials
- Collaborate with surgery, radiation oncology, gastroenterology, radiology, pathology, precision genomics, research nursing, and clinical trial teams
- Support clinical trial accrual and contribute to the development of a robust GI oncology research portfolio
- Provide medical education and mentorship for fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, disease-site program development, and academic conferences
- Contribute to the academic mission of Indiana University School of Medicine through scholarship, education, and programmatic growth
Minimum Job Requirements
- MD or DO degree
- Ability to obtain Indiana medical license
- Demonstrated interest in GI oncology
- Strong interest in clinical trials and development of an academic career as a clinical investigator/clinical trialist
- Commitment to multidisciplinary care, education, and academic collaboration
