Hospital Medicine - Plattsburgh, NY

The University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY is recruiting for a full-time hospitalist to join the division.


Position Details
The team consists of approximately 25 hospitalists (4 full time nocturnists) and 1 advanced practitioner. In addition, there is one academic hospitalist on each day that is devoted to the Family Medicine residents. The full time day and night shift physicians work on average 13, twelve-hour shifts per month. Eight physicians work the day shift (7am-7pm) and two physicians works the night shift (7pm-7am). Workload is shared equally among the physicians. The typical census ranges from 90-130 with the average number of encounters per physician being 15-17 per day (8-10 at night). The scheduling entails a 7 on/7 off block schedule. We have a closed ICU and procedures are not required. Once all physicians have their schedules in place, extra shifts are available to the core group. Codes from 7am to 5pm are generally covered by the code team, attending on file and the ICU attending. During the night shift the ER assists the nocturnists to cover codes.

The full-time physicians are employed by the University of Vermont Health Network Medical Group. The Medical Group is governed by its physician members. The employment model transitioned from hospital employment to the Network Medical Group in 2018. Compensation is subject to the Medical Group Compensation Plan, which is reviewed and updated annually.

Our state of the art critical care unit has 14-beds, the Progressive Care Unit has 12 beds and our three cath labs have digital equipment. We have 9 state-of-the-arts OR’s, a 27-room Emergency Department and newly constructed interventional radiology suites. Our Ambulatory Surgery Center has 4 OR’s and 4 endoscopy suites. The EMR network wide in both the clinic and inpatient settings is EPIC.

Our affiliation with the University of Vermont Medical Center, a level I trauma center located 1 hour away, has helped us to establish a community-based Family Medicine Residency. In addition, we have Emergency Medicine residents and medical students from UVM doing clinical rotations at CVPH.
