0.2 FTE position to serve as supporting residency program director as University of Minnesota and CentraCare partner to establish a newly accredited Internal Medicines. This position will partner with the program director in a temporary supportive role to offer subject matter expertise on program design and educational plan. This work can largely be remote and we welcome you to otherwise retain any existing clinical or faculty positions you may already have. This is a great opportunity for someone with leadership ambitions and GME experience to explore program design and accreditation process and make an impact on a future physicians. The duration of this role is flexible though anticipated to be 18-24 months at a time evaluated to be mutually sufficient to have met the aims of program accreditation and launch preparedness.

This position will be well-resourced with the consulting program director working alongside the newly hired program director and program administrator to design the mission, vision, and structure of a new primary care focused internal medicine program at CentraCare, a community and rural-focused GME affiliate of the University of Minnesota. The CentraCare GME office offers a GME Medical Director and operations support. Program leadership will also be supported through the University of Minnesota Medical School as the sponsoring institution, both from the Department of Internal Medicine and the GME Office. 

Candidate would possess experience in GME leadership and a track record of 3 years of teaching/administrative experience. Ideally also with experience in faculty development.

This candidate will be a strong advocate for education, promote a strong learning environment and seek to provide a well-rounded program to enhance a learning experience like none other. Provides a supportive, curious environment for thoughtful questions, exploration and support. This training site will be at CentraCare clinical learning environments focused at St. Cloud; again, this role can largely be remote though occasional site visits may be needed for in person contact and direct evaluation of clinical sites.

Provide leadership to establish and grow an Internal Medicine Residency at the St. Cloud location

  • Be a role model of physician professionalism and excellence for medical students and residents
  • Develop comprehensive curriculum, that is specifically focused on primary care internal medicine
  • Establish protocol for the recruitment and onboarding of new residents
  • Provide program compliance, establishing policies and procedures by ACGME, ABIM and GMEC
  • Establish program evaluation and improvements to closely monitor educational outcomes; this includes but is not limited to scholarships, match rates, board pass rates, resident experience and the teaching environment
  • Ability to promote rural health medicine
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with colleagues and program supervisor. This includes information in collaboration with the current department, GME leadership and executive leaders. This also includes the external communication needed with the GMEC entity.
  • Continued professional development. Attending national/local PD activities. Annual workshops, MMCGME conferences.

Qualifications

  • Physician MD/DO
  • Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician
  • Has or can establish a Minnesota Medical License
  • 5 years full-time in Internal Medicine
  • 3 years educational/admin experience or equivalent
  • Able to begin by 7/1/2026 at the latest

The Internal Medicine Residency will enhance the educational experience within CentraCare to provide a learning environment for Internal Medicine Residents. Known for strong colleagues and a supportive workplace, CentraCare is excited to expand training opportunities for residents, particularly to coincide with the newly launched St. Cloud branch campus of the University of Minnesota Medical School.  We will also be able to provide a rural focused environment as we have many hospitals outside our regional level II trauma hospital. This residency will provide a well-rounded experience within system to include a strong medical acuity, focus on primary care, and experience in differently resourced settings.

Salary and salary range are based on a 1.0 FTE, reduced FTE will result in a prorated offer rate.
