Locum - Physician - General Medicine NC

Join VHS as a Locum Physician and help support our nation's heroes through important compensation and pension assessments. In this position, you will perform non-treatment examinations—including Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments—primarily interview-based with some physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing. No prescribing or treatment responsibilities are involved, allowing you to focus on thorough evaluations and reporting. The role is designed for providers with their own office locations, offering the autonomy to work on a PRN basis, either partial or full days, according to your availability.
Required Skills:
- Medical license in NC or eligible for licensure
- Background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
- Experience with compensation and pension exams is advantageous
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform physical assessments and document findings accurately
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience conducting VA-related exams
- Certification in DMA or related credentials
- Familiarity with government or military healthcare programs
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Active clinical practice in General Medicine or related fields
- Prior experience in compensation and pension evaluations preferred, but not required
Other Requirements:
- Own office location within the specified radius of the listed NC cities
- Must be available for scheduled, weekly exam days across various locations
- Must complete initial training and exams promptly; incentive bonus upon successful completion
- Local candidates preferred; travel is included in rates when applicable
- Availability starting from March 6, 2026
This role offers a competitive flat rate of $800 for half-day (4 hours or less) shifts and $1,600 for full-day (5 hours or longer) shifts, with additional administrative follow-up hours included within these rates. A one-time bonus of $650 is payable upon completing all required training and initial exams.
