Chief Medical Officer- Virginia State Job (Western State Hospital) Staunton, VA


Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Chief Medical Officer to supervise and coordinate all activities of the Psychiatrist full and part-time and Primary Care Supervisor; ensure that policies, procedures, and outcomes of health care activities inclusive of departments supervised comply with regulatory, legal, and medical standards; and provide executive leadership, direction, services and supports to advance DBHDS’ vision and delivery of a responsive, person-centered, trauma informed, integrated, and recovery-oriented system of care for individuals across the Commonwealth with behavioral health, developmental disability, and substance use disorder needs.

This position will also ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation; address and document any performance, behavior, and attendance issues as they occur; review cases at the request of the treatment teams, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Quality Officer (CQO), and/or Patient Advocate and prepare written reports as needed; ensure the standard of medical and psychiatric care is met through monitoring and supervision of medical staff service delivery including services delivered by contract providers and primary care staff; ensure the placement, management and supervision of medical students and residents comport with established standards, promote practitioner development, and enhance facility goals and participates as an active member of the facility executive leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree and completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program.
- Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible for license (must obtain within 3 months of employment)
- DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificated.
- Initial Board Certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Western State Hospital (WSH) is a state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital that has been operating since 1828 under the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services. We offer services to clients from ages 18 through 64 years old. WSH is a 302-bed Joint Commission accredited facility located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, within 30 minutes of major university towns.
