The Program Director of the Central Maine Healthcare family medicine residency program is a physician leader responsible for managing the program's clinical, administrative, and educational components. This position combines strong clinical skills, high-level administrative abilities, and dedication to medical education and mentorship.
The Program Director, establishes the strategic vision and direction for the residency program in alignment with the institution's goals. They ensure residents receive a high-quality educational experience that complies with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards while delivering excellent patient care. The director is a leader and mentor, guiding residents and faculty toward clinical and academic excellence.
Essential Duties:
Program oversight and administration:
Oversee all aspects of the residency program, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
Ensure the program is compliant with all ACGME, ABFM and institutional policies and regulations.
Manage the program's budget and resources.
Work with hospital administration and other departments to coordinate clinical training and schedules.
Residency education and supervision:
Provide direct clinical supervision and mentorship to residents, offering constructive feedback on their performance.
Conduct formal evaluations of residents' knowledge, skills, and overall performance regularly.
Promote resident well-being by monitoring duty hours and fostering a supportive learning environment.
Guide residents through scholarly activities and research projects.
Clinical leadership:
Provide direct patient care, modeling clinical expertise and ethical behavior for residents.
Oversee the quality and safety of clinical services provided by the practice.
Ensure policies and workflows are evidence-based and align with current best practices.
Recruitment and faculty development:
Lead the recruitment and selection process for prospective residents.
Recruit, retain, and evaluate high-quality program faculty.
Facilitate ongoing professional development for faculty in education, assessment, and leadership.
Strategic planning and quality improvement:
Lead continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
Stay current with medical education and family medicine advancements to update the curriculum continuously.
Promote patient advocacy and community health initiatives.
Education and certification:
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Board certification in Family Medicine.
Active, unrestricted medical license in the relevant state.
Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number.
Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience as a practicing family physician.
Prior experience in medical education or administration, preferably as an Associate Program Director or core faculty member.
