Job Title: Locum to Perm Physician – Oncology
Practice Setting: Free-Standing Cancer Center
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician specializing in Medical Oncology to provide locum coverage with the potential for a permanent position. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering comprehensive cancer care in a supportive and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide outpatient and inpatient medical oncology services, managing a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor boards to formulate and review treatment plans.
- Prescribe and oversee chemotherapy and other cancer-related treatments, collaborating closely with Nurse Oncologists and ancillary staff.
- Manage patients requiring bone marrow transplants and oversee related procedures.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging studies using the electronic medical record system (EPIC).
- Contribute to blood bank management and support complex cases involving hematologic malignancies.
- Provide inpatient care, including rounding and consultation, approximately 20 patients daily; see an average of 25 outpatient patients per day.
- Flexibility to assume call responsibilities once transitioned to a permanent role, typically scheduled every 6-8 weeks (no call during locum period).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD/DO) from an accredited institution.
- Board certification or eligibility in Medical Oncology.
- Valid medical license to practice in South Carolina.
- Experience managing adult and geriatric oncology patients.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the EPIC EMR system.
Additional Details:
- Practice boasts a team of 7 physicians and 6 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
- The practice includes a mix of benign hematology (65%) and malignant oncology (35%), with no internal medicine cases.
- Commitment to patient-centered care with a focus on multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Estimated credentialing timeframe: approximately 60 days.
