Chief Medical Officer | Henry Ford Health | Jackson, Michigan

Henry Ford Health is seeking an accomplished physician executive to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Henry Ford Jackson Hospital (HFJH). This senior leadership role provides executive oversight for physician services across the hospital and campus and serves as a key clinical and strategic partner to system and regional leadership.

Reporting to the West Region Chief Medical Officer, the CMO plays a critical role in advancing clinical quality, patient safety, medical staff engagement, and high-reliability outcomes while supporting the organization’s mission to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for physician services at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital and campus.

  • Champion initiatives that enhance quality of care, patient safety, and the overall patient experience.

  • Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership and medical staff leaders across Henry Ford Health, offering direction on medical staff engagement, physician alignment, development, succession planning, and accreditation.

  • Act as a clinical resource to system service line leaders, supporting care model innovation and collaboration.

  • Foster strong collaboration among operations, nursing, patient care services, clinical departments, and hospital leadership to improve clinical quality indicators, outcomes, and throughput.

  • Lead and support clinical process redesign, clinical informatics initiatives, and the effective use of enabling technologies.

  • Participate as a member of the hospital leadership team, contributing to the overall management, governance, and strategic growth of HFJH.

  • Provide oversight and expertise in medical staff functions, including credentialing, privileging, peer review, medical staff bylaws, and physician recruitment.

  • Serve as a leader in navigating emerging healthcare market dynamics and industry trends to promote sustainable, high-reliability clinical outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO); board certified in a clinical specialty.

  • Advanced formal training in public health, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of successful clinical practice.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive executive leadership experience, including responsibility for fiscal oversight and medical staff management.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare trends, including physician-hospital relationships, physician practice models, access and throughput, quality improvement, clinical information systems, and evolving credentialing requirements.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and manage complex organizational dynamics.

  • Demonstrated customer service orientation with sound judgment in navigating differing perspectives and complex situations.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire commitment to quality, patient safety, and high-reliability outcomes.

  • Proven success operating within a collaborative, shared leadership model.

  • Personal presence characterized by integrity, transparency, credibility, and the ability to motivate and engage others in support of Henry Ford Health’s mission and values.

Henry Ford Hospital - Jackson, partnered with the Henry Ford Health Systems (HFHS -Detroit Area) in April, 2016. Henry Ford Hospital, located in Jackson, Michigan entered our 100th year May 2018. This partnership is very exciting for Henry Ford Hospital and the Jackson community. The partnership with Henry Ford Health System and most recently with Michigan State University, has allowed an amazing amount of growth opportunity. We have a new Innovation Center (adding State of Art Simulation & Research Labs / May 2017), new Surgical Patient Tower that added 66 private rooms Fall 2018, and implemented EPIC house wide (INPT & OUTPT) in 2016.

Our Emergency room treats over 70,000+ visits annually. We have a Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, CUB (Cardiac Universal Bed), Radiation Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, Full Service line of Ortho (total joint, hand/wrist, foot/ankle, sports, podiatry), Physiatry (PM&R), Neurology and Neurosurgery Service Lines, OT/PT, Certified Stroke Center, in January 2015 we brought on Interventional Radiology and this past summer we developed a full service line for inpatient Physiatry (PM&R). 

Henry Ford Hospital - Jackson received an A rating (along with all hospitals within Henry Ford Health System). This ranks us among the safest hospitals in the United States. We are not your average “community hospital.” We are the hidden gem of Jackson and the only hospital in Jackson County, with the next smaller hospital being 20 miles north (St. Joes/Chelsea). We became a certified Trauma center in Spring 2017, and are the only Level II trauma within a 40 mile radius between 94 and 127 HWY. On April 6, 2015 we went live activating Trauma calls, with 24/7 coverage provided in-house coverage with a physician and advanced practice professional.

In 2013 when we developed a “community based GME Residency program” and today we have 117 residents on site; specializing in General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Psych and Traditional Year. We are a dual accredited program as of 2017.
