  • 30-bed Observation Unit
  • Comprehensive Snakebite Program (first in the nation)
  • Global health initiatives supporting BLS, EM skills, ultrasound training in Kenya, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, and Cameroon
  • Expanding hyperbaric wound care program
  • Critical Care Transport utilizing avenues by air and ground

We take pride in INVESTING IN OUR PEOPLE with the motto of “train well, treat well”. Our educational programs offer challenging, hands-on patient care experience across three distinct emergency departments—UAB Hospital, UAB Highlands, and community facilities. Faculty have opportunities to develop expertise in joint specialties including emergency medicine-sports medicine, emergency medicine-geriatrics, and emergency medicine-toxicology. Fellowship training in these and related areas is highly valued.

UAB Medicine is the nation's third-largest public academic medical center, with more than 1,900 beds. Our recent acquisition of Ascension St. Vincent's Health System includes an additional 409 beds, and extensive outpatient facilities throughout Alabama.
