Department Summary: The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty members spanning nine divisions includes representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians.

3. Advance the knowledge of neurological diseases by actively developing innovative treatments through basic, translational and clinical research.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. The Department of Neurology is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and our community. 

The Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time member completing their fellowship training to join our expanding clinical and research enterprises in the Division of General Neurology. This position will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research. 

• Clinical
  • Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on Movement Disorders.
• Teaching
  • Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff through clinical teaching in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They will be a part of the delivery of a series of formal conferences for the housestaff and students emphasizing issues in Movement Disorders. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.
• Research
  • The Division of General Neurology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The clinical instructor will be expected to participate in clinical research and clinical trials.
• Service
  • Faculty member will serve in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
• Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• BC/BE in Neurology
• A specific subspecialty interest may also be accommodated based on Departmental needs
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
