Job Summary and Responsibilities

Dignity Health Medical Group Nevada is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pulmonary & Critical Care Intensivist to join our dynamic Critical Care team at our Siena Campus. The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical skills, strong critical thinking abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

The Pulmonary & Critical Care Intensivist will provide comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients in our Medical/Surgical ICU, with a particular focus on complex pulmonary conditions. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of critical illnesses, including severe respiratory failure, acute lung injury, and various infiltrative lung diseases. The physician will work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team, including nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical responsibilities include working within a critical care team model comprised of residents, pharmacists, nutritionists, PT/OT and palliative care.
  • Patient population includes critical medical, surgical, cardiovascular, thoracic, and neuro critical care patients, with a significant emphasis on patients with complex pulmonary pathologies.
  • Provide comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients, including initial assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management, with a strong focus on respiratory system disorders.
  • Perform procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tubes, and diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy (including BAL and biopsies), and other critical care procedures as needed.
  • Manage patients with severe acute and chronic respiratory failure, including those requiring advanced ventilatory support, non-invasive ventilation, and ECMO.
  • Manage patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of pulmonary conditions in critically ill patients, including pneumonia, ARDS, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pulmonary embolism, pleural effusions, and interstitial lung diseases.
  • Interpret diagnostic studies, including EKGs, chest x-rays, CT scans of the chest, and pulmonary function tests.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies appropriate for critically ill patients, including advanced pulmonary pharmacotherapy.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Participate in rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide education and training to medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Board certification in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine is required.
  • Fellowship training in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine is required.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school required.
  • Candidates will be expected to be proficient with standard intensive care procedures (advanced airway management, ACLS coverage for the hospital, central lines, dialysis lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, etc.)
  • Current and unrestricted medical license in Nevada required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the management of complex critical care cases and advanced pulmonary conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate patient care.
  • Experience with ECMO strongly preferred.
