School-Based Mental Health Professional - New Jersey (#R10266)

Location: New Jersey (on-site; location varies by contract)
Employment Type: Full-time or part-time
Hourly Rate: $65 - $90 per hour (depending on credentials, experience, and location)

Position Overview:

The School-Based Mental Health Professional provides comprehensive mental health services to students within an educational setting. This role focuses on supporting students’ emotional, behavioral, and social well-being to enhance academic success. Services include assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school staff and families.

Qualifications:

  • Job Qualifications & Certifications:
    • Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
    • Active state license (LCSW, LMSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) preferred
    • School certification (if required by state/district)
    • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
    • Knowledge of children and adolescent development
    • Ability to build trust with students and families
    • Organizational and documentation skills
    • Cultural competency and sensitivity
    • Team collaboration and problem-solving

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students
  • Conduct mental health assessments and screenings
  • Develop and implement treatment or intervention plans
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records
  • Support students with behavioral and emotional challenges
  • Participate in IEP/504 meetings when applicable
  • Provide referrals to external mental health resources

Physical Examination Responsibilities:

  • Observe and document student behavior and mental status
  • Conduct basic mental health evaluations (not physical exams unless licensed to do so)
  • Identify signs of emotional distress, abuse, or neglect
  • Monitor student progress and response to interventions

Medical Oversight Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, psychologists, or healthcare providers as needed
  • Monitor medication compliance (if applicable and within scope)
  • Ensure adherence to mental health treatment plans
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions
