About South Texas Health System McAllen: South Texas Health System McAllen, formerly known as McAllen Medical Center, is a 441-bed hospital that is the only designated advanced Level I Trauma Center for Hidalgo County, and its NICU remains the region's only neonatal surgical center. The hospital is a certified Primary Stroke Center. Services provided at the hospital include advanced wound care, maternity care, neurosurgery and orthopedics. South Texas Health System McAllen is accredited by The Joint Commission and has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval.
