Lehigh Acres, just east of Fort Myers, is one of Florida’s largest residential communities in east Lee County. The growing suburb maintains a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with abundant parks, preserves, outdoor recreation, and championship golf, all within easy driving distance of Gulf Coast beaches and water activities. It is also conveniently located about 20 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport, making travel simple for residents and visitors alike.
In 1965, the hospital was built and began serving the community of Lehigh Acres, located 20 miles east of Fort Myers. As a result of the increase in residents and visitors, the hospital expanded in 1971. In December 1983, the hospital expanded even further, with a renovation that grew our facilities to accommodate 53 beds and our growing team of dedicated employees, physicians and nurses. In 1996, a new medical office was built adjacent to the hospital. On December 1, 2001, the hospital was renamed Lehigh Regional Medical Center to better reflect our role in providing quality, compassionate care to Eastern Lee County and Hendry County.
Always keeping the community's needs at the forefront, our emergency room was completely renovated in 1998 from a four-room unit to a nine-bed, leading-edge emergency services department. As a result, we were able to begin offering 24/7 emergency services, complete with capabilities for radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory testing, cardiopulmonary exercise studies, computerized tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Later renamed HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital, our hospital's long-range planning and attentiveness to regional needs have allowed us to continue serving as a trusted care resource in our area. In addition to providing crucial medical care, we are actively involved in community organizations, special events, school system activities and charitable causes in the area. Additionally, to provide quality service to our local senior population, we partnered with the Lee County government to assume the management of the Lehigh Acres Senior Center.
Today, over 100 physicians belong to our medical staff, providing all primary medical and surgical specialties, including cardiologists, orthopedic and general surgeons, gastroenterologists, internists, neurologists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, urologists and other specialties. The hospital has four surgical suites for major and minor procedures and offers a pharmacy and rehabilitation services for postoperative care. Above all, our mission is to continue lifting up the communities we serve, so they can live healthier lives.
