SCOPE
As a psychology examiner you will be conducting psychological exams and completing applicable disability benefits questionnaires (DBQs). DBQs help collect necessary medical information so that the VA may process a Veteran’s disability claims.
Location Requirements, If Conducting Exams At Office
Charleston, SC – Hours: 1 day a week – We have an office to utilize
- Address clearly displayed
- Dedicated handicap parking spots that can accommodate wheelchair access
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Exits free of obstacles
- Elevator available if stairs are present
- Staff to greet and guide veteran in and out of exam room
- Office is clean and maintained
- Flooring that is safe/free of tripping hazards
- Furniture in good condition
- Bathroom must be wheelchair accessible
- Grab bars securely installed
- Sprinkler system or smoke alarm that is functional and maintained
- Fire extinguishers must be 10lbs and ABD rated; functional and maintained
- Exam room must be wheelchair accessible and private
- If applicable, exam table must be sturdy and accessible to all
veterans. Exam table with adjust able height preferred.
- Disposable exam table paper, must not be re-used
- If applicable, medical supplies must be hygienically stored and not re-used:
- Bandages
- Antiseptic wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Cotton swabs
- Tongue Depressors
- Gauze
- Paper towels
- Tissue
- First aid kit
- Body fluid clean-up kit
- Biohazard container
Psychology Requirements
- Doctorate degree from a college or university accredited by American Psychological Association (APA).
or
Doctorate degree from a recognized college of medicine with completion of an accredited residency in Psychiatry.

Credentialing-
Gather and submit the following:

- Office exterior and interior (e.g., parking, entrance, waiting room, exam room)
- Bathroom with grab bars
- Fire extinguisher tag – inspected within a year
Contracting
- Upon successful credentialing, a contract will be emailed. During this stage, VES will obtain your banking information for payment and you may elect to enroll in electronic payments
VA Training
- As a psychology examiner, you must complete VA training courses, estimated at 14 hours. Upon completion, you will be certified for 5 years
VES Training
- This training covers VES systems, conducting exams, and completing DBQs, estimated at 3 hours.
