Physician – Interventional Cardiologist Position in San Francisco, CA!

Job Description

Join our Team at the Department of Veterans VA Medical Center, San Francisco, CA as a Physician – Interventional Cardiologist! 

The San Francisco VA Health Care System is seeking a highly skilled Interventional Cardiologist to join our Interventional Cardiology team at the SFVA Medical Center (SFVAMC). The SFVAHCS serves approximately 90,000 Veterans through the SFVAMC and nine community-based outpatient clinics. The SFVAMC is a tertiary academic medical center with around 5,000 inpatient stays annually, offering the full complement of inpatient, outpatient, and subspecialty care. In addition to our well-equipped cardiac cath lab, the full spectrum of CT Surgery is available on site. The Cardiology Section exists within the SFVAHCS Medical Service (Department of Medicine) and maintains an academic affiliation with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Duties

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, high quality interventional cardiac care to our nation’s Veterans, performing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic coronary and structural procedures. Clinical work will focus primarily on interventional cardiology and will also include participation in general cardiology services.

In addition to direct patient care, this position carries a strong academic mission, with emphasis on teaching and supporting UCSF’s general and interventional cardiology fellows, as well as the medical residents and students who commonly spend time at the SFVA. Opportunities for involvement in quality improvement, systems leadership, education, and research may also be available depending on the candidate’s interests.

General duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional cardiac procedures.  
  • Function as an attending physician on the inpatient cardiology consult service and the cardiac intensive care unit.
  • Precept and/or see patients in the SFVA Cardiology Clinic.
  • Interpret ECGs and ambulatory ECG monitors.

Supervise and teach general and interventional cardiology fellows, medical residents, and medical students who rotate on your services.

  • Expected Salary Range from $345K - $400K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience).

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
  • Disability Retirement
  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
