Carilion Clinic, the largest not-for-profit integrated academic health system in Virginia, is seeking an experienced, board-certified urologist to serve as Section Chief of Urology — a leadership role combining clinical practice, academic engagement, and health system responsibilities, with a faculty appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM).

Position Highlights

• Leadership opportunity: Section Chief role with academic and health system responsibilities, leading an established team of 7 urologists in Roanoke (plus 1 in Lexington) and 4 advanced practice providers.
• Academic affiliation: Faculty appointment with VTCSOM, a fully accredited four-year allopathic medical school founded in 2010 through a public-private partnership between Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic.
• Premier facility: Based primarily at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 760+ bed academic and tertiary referral center with a Level I trauma center.
• Advanced technology: Da Vinci V, Xi, and SP robotic platforms; MRI-guided prostate biopsy; and advanced ultrasound technology.
• Integrated EMR: Epic, connected across inpatient and outpatient settings and all regions and facilities.
• Practice scope: Both inpatient and outpatient care, full-time, Monday–Friday, with a shared call schedule.
• Teaching and research: Paid teaching opportunities with fellows, residents, medical students, and APPs, plus research and committee involvement.
• System reach: Part of a health system serving one million people across Southwest Virginia and surrounding states, with seven hospitals, 220+ physician practice locations, and 31 GME programs.

Compensation & Benefits

Base compensation: $574,291 - $810,672

Requirements

• Board Certification in Urology required
• Minimum of 5 years of experience 
• Demonstrated readiness for a section leadership role with academic and health system responsibilities
