The Opportunity

The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University seeks a cardiothoracic surgeon with a particular interest in lung and heart transplantation. The successful candidate will preferably have at least five years of adult cardiothoracic surgery experience. Experience in lung and heart transplantation will be a plus.  Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient and outpatient care in cardiovascular surgery service, rounding in the ICU and other inpatient units, organ procurement, heart and lung transplants, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and a wide variety of cardiothoracic and vascular surgical procedures. 

Over the past several years, the Division has experienced significant clinical and academic growth in all subspecialty areas and continues to expand its services regionally and nationally. The program performs high-quality lung and heart transplantation surgery, mechanical circulatory and respiratory support, off-pump and on-pump coronary artery bypass, valve repair, and replacement, including Ross procedure, aortic surgery, transcatheter valve, and aortic repair/replacement.  The new faculty member will benefit from the mentorship of the experienced and accomplished faculty. The Department of Surgery offers potential candidates a uniquely supportive practice environment emphasizing quality patient care, research, teaching, individual career development, and collegiality among faculty members.

Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. with Board Certification/Eligibility by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or foreign equivalent; eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required. Preference will be given to candidates trained in an ACGME-accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship program. Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required before the start date.  The appointment will be commensurate with experience, training, and teaching activities. Lastly, applicants will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
