Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Vice President of Oncology Research serves as the senior leader responsible for driving the clinical research mission of the OSF Cancer Institute. Oversees all oncology clinical research and supporting infrastructure, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, good clinical practice, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for the development and activation of the OSF Breakthrough Treatment Center (Early Phase Trial program) at the Cancer Institute, serving initially as the program director. The Vice President is expected to build and conduct a subspecialized oncology practice to include seeing patients in the clinic.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from US Medical School Completion of an approved fellowship program in medical oncology and/or hematology with board eligible/board certification in this specialty

Experience:

  • Significant knowledge of translational and clinical cancer research and its application for drug development.
  • Knowledge and leadership of the operations for a clinical research infrastructure to safely conduct clinical trials and adhere to federal regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of key areas of early drug development (biology, chemistry, pharmacology) and/or experience in clinical drug development, specifically conducting early phase clinical trials.
  • Experience in developing and leading early phase clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated evidence of interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership to department personnel and develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with medical center personnel, community physicians, and research staff.
  • Evidence of understanding of resource allocation issues across academic and health care systems settings, for example through grant budgeting and oversight processes. Analytic capabilities demonstrated by work history in the use of data to inform actionable information.
  • Including, but not limited to familiarity with the use of basic statistical analysis, scientific figure development, spreadsheet calculations, and database creation.
  • Evidence of academic experience in areas of oncology practice such as research, quality improvement, and operations.

Licensure/ Certification:

  • Licensed physician in State of Illinois.
  • Certification on human subjects’ protection education and good clinical practice (GCP) as required by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
  • Board Certification in area of specialty. Fellowship in area of clinical specialty.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to build a clinical practice and develop referral lines. Experience working with pharma and/or biotech companies.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • History of engagement with public health in proposing solutions for improving cancer control in at-need populations
