Pediatric Physician (Hospitalist) - 25k Signing Bonus!

Conway Medical Center (CMC), the #1 rated hospital in SC on Google and a Forbes “Best-in-State Employer”, is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist who will focus on providing care to newborns and pediatric patients admitted by the Emergency Department.

SCHEDULE:

• 7 days on / 7 days off
  • 8 hours in-house per day (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
  • 24/7 coverage with 16 hours of on-call responsibilities
• Call responsibilities include: Nurse phone consultations, potential admissions from the ED, and attending high-risk deliveries or stabilizing sick newborns (calls come from nurses and/or ER doctors – NOT from parents)
• Call Room Availability: Dedicated call rooms are available for use while on call. While there's no requirement to stay onsite, providers have the option to utilize the call rooms if needed or preferred. 

SUPPORT & RESOURCES:

• APRN support is provided 6 days per week (Tuesday-Saturday).
• Family Medicine residents assist with well newborn care.
• Part time pediatric hospitalist who assists with high-volume days, call coverage, and vacation coverage.
• The nursery, labor & delivery, postpartum unit, and pediatrics are located conveniently on the same floor.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE:

• Typical Census: 10-20 newborns per day / 0-2 pediatric patients per day.
• Primary inpatient duties involve managing newborns: majority well newborns, few Level II newborns (usual census 1-4, licensed for 6), and occasionally Level III newborns (CPAP, hypoglycemia)
• Duties also involve managing straightforward pediatric admissions such as asthma, gastroenteritis.
• No complex subspecialty care or PICU-level cases.
• Procedures Include: Circumcisions, frenotomies, and excision of simple polydactyly may be performed (provider-dependent). Rare emergency procedures such as intubation, needle decompression of pneumothorax, and UVC placement may be required

LEVEL OF CARE & TRANSFERS:

• Providers will work in a Level 2 nursery which accepts infants 32 weeks or later, and over 1500g. We provide HFNC, short term CPAP, IV fluids, IV antibiotics, and nasogastric feedings.
• For pregnancies that are more premature (before 32 weeks) or require more specialized care, the patients are transferred to facilities with Level 3 or Level 4 NICUs, which can provide more advanced neonatal care for extremely premature or critically ill newborns.
• McLeod (Level III) is accessible by ground transport within 2 hours / MUSC (Level IV) is reachable via helicopter within 45 minutes.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Approximately 2,000 deliveries annually, expected to grow due to the expansion of the Women’s Health department and transfers from Grand Strand Medical Center.
• Cerner EMR
• Team will consist of 2 full-time hospitalists + 1 part-time hospitalist + 1 full-time NP
• Candidates must have completed a full 3-year U.S.-based pediatric residency. International residencies are not accepted.
