Hematology is the study of the blood. This deals with the nature, function, and any diseases or conditions that may deal with the blood or blood-forming organs. The diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these diseases is done by a hematologist. Conditions seen by a hematologist may affect the blood itself, bone marrow, or a part of the vascular system. Conditions seen may be ones such as sickle cell anemia, myelofibrosis, hemophilia, or polycythemia.
